Baldur’s Gate 3 developers expands to their seventh studio
Published: 20 May 2024

Larian studios announced on Twitter the opening of their brand new studio in Warsaw to help in their development of two new projects.

Whilst no new details have been announced about what the two new projects are, the fresh studio promises to help shape the future of RPGs.

Larian’s expansion makes Poland the seventh country the company operates in, joining its sister studios in Belgium, Canada, Malaysia, Spain, Ireland and the UK.

The company promises to ‘empower’ their development team by ‘fostering an environment where developers can thrive creatively and reclaim their agency’. This for Larian is central to their mission of making ‘genre-leading games’.

Their move to Warsaw makes them neighbours with an array of different studios including a selection of independent game development companies. The city is also the home to the creators of the Witcher games series – CD Project Red who welcomed them on Twitter.

This expansion follows the announcement that no new DLCs will be coming to Baldur’s Gate III as well as Larian stepping away from the franchise. This means, the new games will be something fresh for fans.

The game performed incredibly well selling over 15 million copies, doubling their last game Divinity Original Sin: 2. The game also swept up numerous games awards including game of the year.

This announcement comes after numerous studio closures have rocked the gaming industry this month.

Xbox shut down four studios earlier this month including Tango Gameworks, Arkane Austin, Alpha Dog Studios and Roundhouse Games. All of these were cut from Bethesda Game’s Studios portfolio of studios.

Indie game developer Paladin Studios also shut down at the start of May after 19 years of game development due to a lack of work.

With all these negative announcements within the industry gamers are reacting positively to the news of a new studio opening.
